We love our chooks.

Chooks are magnificent creatures. They are extremely useful around the farm and are very funny to watch while they are busy being chooks. Except when they get into the vegie patch without permission.

We keep three heritage breeds of chook. Barnevelders for egg laying, Indian Game for meat and Silkies to raise chicks. It is good to preserve old breeds that were so carefully developed over time for a particular purpose.

Barnevelders

These are the best combination of performance and stunning heritage good looks. Barnevelders are excellent layers, good natured and hardy. Your back yard needs some.

Mighty Indian Game

For anyone serious about growing their own food, these chooks are meat birds par excellence.
Mild mannered and quite like two house bricks strapped together with sturdy legs attached, these rare breed feathered fowl hold pride of place at Wildes Lane.

Silkies

These are the darlings of the chook yard. Gentle little puff-balls that LOVE going clucky. Which is why we love them: They raise chicks for us.
